Bill Gates is sexy

February 20th, 2006

I really mean that. I like to listen to the man talk and recently I got 17 minutes of unscripted BillG goodness from Channel 9.

Corporate wars and your mom

February 15th, 2006

For some reason or another I have subscribed to Fast Company news on My Customizable Google Home Page. Yeah I’m driven by fast, slick and shiny, get over it. I started to read this article because the boss had just left early, and got multiple kicks out of it. Decide for yourself. Millennials

I need a Tablet PC

February 14th, 2006

During my normal morning discussion with Bitrott I decided that I really need a Tablet PC for work. As we talked I was poking around and the full force of the idea hit me in the face. Currently I spend lots of time transcribing notes. Notes that I have taken in the field and need to keep and track and such for future reference or current projects. I have this nice new laptop but I still find myself jotting down notes on a small yellow notepad that I carry in my clipboard and then going through them on a regular basis putting them where they go. This of course is time consuming and sucks.

Suckage at work is bad.

I already have enough suckage from my boss and my customers and such, I don’t need it from my gear as well. I do have some requirements for the device but nothing to terribly horrible. It has to have a PC card slot for my legacy parallel crap that I have to do. It needs to have decent storage capacity. It needs to have both wired and wireless networking capability and it needs to be able to run Office and OneNote. God I love OneNote.

The only problem I can see is the cost. The damn things are terribly expensive especially for what I need since it would be my primary computer. Throw in an extra battery and a car charger and my wallet begins to weep. My company won’t pay for it and to be quite frank I don’t want them to. It would be a shame to lose such a nice piece of hardware when I leave.

The Afterlife

February 9th, 2006

I found this via Chris Pirillo’s blog the other day and had to mention it.

LifeGem is a company that will take your loved one’s ashes and use them to make a diamond (blue or yellow) for you. When you first hear about this service it sounds interesting. It’s better than keeping a urn full of ashes on the mantle and you can do fun things like introduce it to other people as you late spouse. Then doubt begins to set in and the idea of turning the deceased into gem stones gradually becomes more and more creepy. The whole thing then proceeds to crash and burn when you check out the price page and notice that they have bulk pricing.

On the plus side LifeGem can also turn your beloved pet in to one of the shiny things that so often kept them entertained.

My mind is a blank slate

February 7th, 2006

I’ve been pretty much running on autopilot for the last couple weeks. I haven’t been able to hold a though for very long and this of course has affected my ability to talk about anything for any period of time over 3 minutes. I have lots of stuff that I want to think and talk about but I can’t focus n any one thing for very long. Even as I type this my mind wanders to all the bullshit I have to take care of today. It’s rather disconcerting to feel this way. Especially the bits where I wonder when and if I’ll come out of it.
