Impeach Bush?

June 30th, 2005

(I)n a sign of continuing polarization, more than two-in-five voters (42%) say they would favor impeachment proceedings if it is found the President misled the nation about his reasons for going to war with Iraq.

I find this hard to believe and I would question their sampling on it. Not that I don’t agree with it but something seems wrong.

RSS 1.0 and Atom Feeds

June 29th, 2005

As I mentioned in the post earlier I noticed that some people are still pulling the RSS 1.0 and Atom feeds. I deleted these from the template list long ago so they weren’t being updated. If you happened to be subscribed to one of these feeds I apologize and I would also like to say welcome back.

CRT is one year old.

June 29th, 2005

Actually I missed the day by like three months. My first post was on April 12th, 2004. The current post count is 270 (271 if you count this one) and by coincidence the comment count is just about to overtake the post count (this would have happened sooner had I not been an idiot one morning and nuked ten or so comments). To date we’ve had roughly a hojillion spam comments and pings <sigh>. If you Google the phrase “Cathode Ray Tan” we are both the first and second listings (cathoderaytan.net is first, cathoderaytan.com is second). Our current Google page rank is 5/10. To date I’ve spent $300.00 hosting CRT and made $2.74 from google ads. The most visitors we’ve had at CRT was on June 16th, 2005 when there were 644 (which is odd because nobody posted anything that day). The most visitors we’ve had in a month was June of 2005 where we had 9570 (my question is why don’t these people comment). Most of the last two statistics were from comment spam. For some reason people are still subscribed to RSS feeds that I deleted months ago (I guess I should fix those).

That is all.

iTunes Podcatching

June 28th, 2005

So, iTunes 4.9 is out and it does podcasts. Great, wonderful, I mean that…really. But if I can’t add my own feeds to it then what good is it?

This morning when bit told me I immediately updated my copy of iTunes and ran a search for each and every podcast I listen to.

I found one.

So then I looked for a way to add my own feeds. Did I miss it? Should I right click? No, that’s not it. Where the hell is it? I don’t think it’s there. Bit pointed out that you can suggest a feed for them to add. <sarcasm> Oh! Well hell, I can “suggest” a feed for them to consider adding to the directory prime that is iTunes. Perhaps Steve Jobs will allow me this one grace if I keep repeating, “If I can’t hear it on iTunes then it doesn’t exist.” </sarcasm>

I love iTunes, I really do and I think Adam Curry is totally hot but there’s more out there than the “Podfather.” iTunes podcast support feels…hmm…I dunno…castrated.

Of guns and goals

June 28th, 2005

See Vale enlightened me to a fact that I knew on the surface, but had not really internalized. “Yeah Violet’s a Gun Runner”, he told someone gleefully. “Shut up, I am not!” See for anyone who knows me, that would be funny if it wasn’t so sad. I spend 2+ hours a day next to a died-in-the-wool SoCal-republican (a calipublican, a republifornian?) careening along the commute route, fighting off the fox talk radio plague mongers by stuffing my head phones ever deeper into my ears. All this to arrive in the golden valley of opportunity known as Santa Clarita, so that I can shuffle the paper trail generated by the sale and upkeep of weaponry. We have something that’s pet name is Squib. Nope, don’t wanna know. To this add the new micro managing machine (so called VP) that’s been cloned from a call center. I have a goal to remain conscious each day but that’s a stretch.

As a side note, I’m thinking of joining the dope and guns political party.

What color is your calendar

June 28th, 2005

Mine has been moody blue for as long as I can remember…
but I’m thinking of changing to a kewl one like this. Which finds me in a westerly year (watery and soul-full), in an observing period of time period in which to trust no one of possible malific intent (hm, same thing).

After Grokster

Wanna know what can happen in the wake of the Grokster ruling if it is allowed to stand? Then check this out.

Supreme Court Rules Against Grokster

June 27th, 2005

I haven’t paid much attention to the Grokster case but I did understand that it would have far reaching implications regardless of the direction things went. Anyway here is my completely unresearched, non-legal opinion.

Once again the system has betrayed us. First it was the medicinal marijuana ruling. Then we were told that our property can be taken away to build a shopping center. Now comes Grokster. What this means, if I read things correctly, is that if you build a device or a piece of software that you have to be damn sure that nobody (let me say that again with feeling), nobody within your company ever even thinks that your product can be used for illegal purposes. If they do then you will be sued out of existence.

Holy fuck people, look at what we have become.

Now it’s law and as Doc Searls said in his post on the subject, “I don’t know how we’re going to unfuck this one, but I’m sure it will take a very long time.”

Work Pants

June 27th, 2005

As I take off the soft, warm pajamas of the weekend and step in to the cold, stiff, constricting pants of the work week I find myself to be simply amazed by the human mind. Partly because it can come up with wonderful things like the pants metaphor above but mostly because the human mind can rationalize doing just about anything. Take me for example. I get up every morning and go in to work, rain or shine, in sickness and in health, till death do us part. I hate doing it but I never take any time off. Why do I do that?

I’m really tired right now so this post is not nearly as eloquent as it could be. Just rambling thoughts from a tired mind this morning.

The English are quite naughty at times.

June 22nd, 2005

I haven’t seen Doctor Who (ever) but I know that lots of geeks like it. Apparently in one episode of the current series there is a space station that has a giant dildo attached to it.

How odd.
