I will be the first to admit that the intentions of the students taking the video were less than pure. I would also like to say that the language and behavior of the student who was accosted by the teacher is by no means excusable. That being said…what the fuck do you think you’re doing Mr. Mantel?

They may be in school but children do still have certain right afforded to them (being little assholes is not one of them), up to and including the choice to not rise for the national anthem or salute the flag. Their reasons are their own and they do not have to share them with you nor are you allowed to brow beat them into conforming to your ideals.

I would like to give you a bit of advice Mr. Mantel. If you find yourself getting angry at your students and you find that you are unable to see any kind of potential in them then please do us all a favor and quit. You’ll feel better, we’ll feel better, and everyone will be just that much happier.
